In these positions, Dr. Singerman provided clinical supervision for over 120 psychiatrists, was responsible for clinical care of over 320 psychiatric inpatient beds divided into 25 specialty psychiatric units. Dr. Singerman provided psychiatric educational lectures to all medical students, psychiatric and medical resident physicians, and other relevant staff members.

Dr. Singerman helped develop a Pentagon-funded program which developed training curriculum to decrease the probability of post-traumatic stress emergence in returning veterans

Worked to develop and provide treatment methods for wounded combat veterans with profound brain injuries

Psychiatrist for Washington and Greene counties through the Centerville Clinics of Southwestern Pennsylvania, a large, rural medical and mental health group of clinics serving the Appalachian areas of Southwestern Pennsylvania, founded in 1952 by Joseph “Jock” Yablonski, who was killed along with members of his family by then-President of UMW Tony Boyle when he ran for president of the United Mine Workers in 1968.

Preceptor for Lecom student rotations in psychiatry.

2003 – Present

Participant and presenter, A.P.A. Council on Business Outreach. Make presentations to employer groups and insurance companies on the cost of missed psychiatric diagnoses and care on employee productivity and employee medical prognosis. I have presented to Highmark, Aetna, and planned presentations internationally for PPG as well as in Virginia and Ohio. This outreach to business uses Pittsburgh as a demonstration project to train psychiatrists in other parts of the country to carry out similar outreach to businesses. The overall goal is to assure quality mental health coverage nationally.

 

 

2002 – Present

Member of the National Magellan Heath Services Clinical Practice Guideline Committee. One of four psychiatrists on this seven member committee that publishes Magellan guidelines on the treatment of major depression, suicide, substance abuse, and schizophrenia from extensive literature reviews with each guideline updated every two years. Magellan, which covers 65 million Americans, sends these guidelines as standards of care to all our credentialed practitioners in the country.

 

 

1976 – 1979

Founder and coordinator, Diversional Activities Program, Johns Hopkins Hospital. This was a program I began in my first year of psychiatric residency involving approximately 40 undergraduate students from all the universities in Baltimore. Students participated in an evening program providing activities for inpatients on the Hopkins psychiatric wards. It continued for many years and was considered highly successful, receiving a grant from the Armco Steel Company to continue the program.
